From port to city
 
Funchal's cruise port is about a 20-minute walk from the city center. Getting to the center from the cruise port is very easy.

Palheiro Gardens. Among the many flower beds and sculpted hedges are the rose garden, sunken garden, Camellia Avenue, French garden, women's garden, and a tea room. Enjoy the wonderful blooming plants as you walk.
 
Funchal Cathedral. The city's cathedral takes you back to the Portuguese age of discovery, a building dating from the dawn of the 16th century. The oldest religious building in Madeira, preserved since the colonization of the island.
 
Monte cable car. It takes you to the 600 meters above sea level area of ​​Monte. In addition to reaching the attractions in Monte, you can also enjoy the incredible scenery.
 
Monte Palace Tropical Garden. A botanical garden where exotic plants are accompanied by waterfalls, and the architectural flourishes are reminiscent of a Japanese pagoda. Your path through the gardens is adorned with stunning tiles produced in the 15th and 16th centuries, while the Japanese garden features tile panels that tell the story of trade between Portugal and Japan.
 
Madeira Botanical Garden. From Monte, you can take the cable car to the Botanical Garden. The trip is very scenic. Like much of Funchal, the garden is engraved on the hillside. Here you can see plantations of tropical and subtropical fruits such as papaya, avocado, coffee, sugarcane, as well as an abundance of beautiful plants.
 
Monastery of Saint Clara. The Portuguese National Monument is open to the public. This nuns operating monastery is sure to impress you with its religious and artistic heritage.
 
Jesuit College. This is a stunning 16th century building with Renaissance and Baroque architecture. The college was well known and revered outside Portugal, and Ignatian believers came here to study and relax. The complex consisted of many buildings, but today many of them have not survived. Monarch Carlos used the building as an infantry barracks.
 
 
Madeira
Cape San Lorenzo. The Far East of Madeira is a nature reserve with huge volcanic rocks with red hues. There are amazingly beautiful landscapes, completely different from the landscapes of the rest of the island. Endless expanses, high cliffs up to 180 m, the roar of the waves, as well as a fresh and very gusty wind - this is how this area can be described.
 
Cabo Girao. In 2012, a bridge was erected on this 580-meter cliff on the south coast of Madeira. It gives you a clear, dizzying view of the ocean far below. On the east side of the platform, you can enjoy a wonderful view of Funchal.
 
Piku Ruivu. If you are up for the challenge, Madeira's highest peak (1,862 m) can be traversed if you have the right shoes and are always aware of the weather conditions. The route for confident travelers starts in Pico do Arieiro and takes about six hours.
 
Levada Caldera Verde. In Madeira, walks along the levadas are very popular - this is the name for the artificial irrigation canals laid throughout the island and delivering water from the mountains to settlements.
 
Whale Museum. The idea behind such a museum space was to preserve the historical memory of whale hunting in Madeira and to promote integrated knowledge of cetaceans and respect for the environment.
 
Quinta das Cruzes Museum. It is located in an old mansion, which hundreds of years ago belonged to the discoverer of Madeira, João Gonçalves Zarco. Among the exhibits of this museum are the most interesting collections of antique furniture, china and works of art. It contains many exotic plants and flowers, among which are preserved ancient sculptures and decorative elements.
 
Historic Center of Madeira. In the Madeira Story Center, in an hour and a half, you will get acquainted in an interactive and multimedia mode with the history of Madeira from the geological processes of the origin of the archipelago to the present day. During the session, visitors become participants in historical processes.
