Around the fountain there are a number of important buildings, including the Doge's Palace, the Carlo Felice Theater, the Genoa Stock Exchange and the Castle of the Dukes of Urbino.

Porta Soprana Gate. Genoa is famous for its once vast city wall - over the years, the walls were expanded and closed off much of the city, in fact, they were the longest city walls in Italy. Part of this long-bypassed area still stands today in the form of the gates and towers of Port Soprana.

Piazza Matteotti. Although it is located very close to Piazza Ferrari, Piazza Matteotti is an excellent location in itself and has a number of historic buildings and attractions. The Doge's Palace is located in one of the squares and is a truly luxurious building, framed by a row of stone columns, and at the other end is the fabulous Cathedral of San Lorenzo.

Cathedral of San Lorenzo. The Church of San Lorenzo, better known as the Genoa Cathedral, is a fantastic building. The architecture is reminiscent of the Cathedral of Florence and has a similar striped facade in marble and stone.

Genoese aquarium. The aquarium, located next to Piazza Carchamento in the main harbor, is a great place for the whole family. This building contains many different marine life, including species of fish, sharks, dolphins, turtles and jellyfish.

Genoa Maritime Museum. This museum is a truly interesting and insightful place and contains four floors of historical artifacts, reconstructions and exhibitions.

Forte Begato. This hillside fort is located in the northern regions of Genoa and occupies a dominant position on the top of a large mountain. The main part of the complex is the large central barracks, which housed over 300 soldiers, as well as a number of artillery platforms.

Via Garibaldi. UNESCO World Heritage Site. Via Garibaldi is one of the most important streets in Genoa and is famous for its many palaces and beautiful architecture. Notable buildings include Palazzo Bianco, Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Doria Tursi, Palazzo Lomelino and Palazzo Pantaleo.

Harbor of Genoa. Genoa's huge harbor stretches over 22 km of coastline and is home to a large number of docks and ports for commercial and entertainment purposes. This harbor offers tremendous tourism potential and includes many bars, restaurants and museums.

Museo d'Arte Orientale. The Museum of Oriental Art is located near Piazza del Portello in the center of Genoa, in the center of the Villetta di Negro Park, and offers something different from the standard museums of modern art in most cities.
