Tarangire
Tarangire is the land of elephants and baobabs.

Tarangire National Park
is one of the most interesting natural parks in Tanzania. The name was given to him by the Tarangire River, the only one in this area, where herds of hoofed animals and predators flock to the watering hole. It is very easy to get to the park, there is a good road. Travel time will take about 2 hours.

Tarangire National Park was established in 1970 on an area of 2850 sq. Km. This is a steppe with hills and marshes, quite a lot of vegetation and a rich fauna. Most of the park's territory is accessible to visiting guests, the remaining percent is wild areas, on which there are not even paved roads. According to the fauna, the park is divided into seven areas in four different zones. Right at the entrance is the Lemion area: many birds, herds of zebras and antelopes, as well as elephants and leopards. In the depths of the park, across the Engelhard Bridge, there are places where bird safaris are held: here you can see pelicans and marabou storks. The heart of Tarangire is home to herds of elephants, zebras, buffaloes, hippos and eland antelopes - the largest in Africa. The ecosystem of the park also includes the villages of local Maasai people who take part in the safari as guides, assistants and guides, as well as oversee the preservation of the environment.

Are you not impressed by small animals, and have you always dreamed of seeing truly huge giants of flora and fauna? So you come here! Tarangire: the land of elephants and baobabs.
Elephants have strong families. Mothers take care of their children for 10-15 years. Older daughters tenderly take care of younger sisters and brothers. Later, when they have their own children, young females do not leave the family group, continuing to obey their mothers and enjoy their patronage, and they themselves touchingly take care of their nephews. Elephants live long. Many females, still full of strength and health, become "grandmothers", and if they are lucky, even "great-grandmothers". They continue to rule over their sprawling families, patronizing the youngest offspring - "grandchildren" and "great-grandchildren."

A different fate awaits the males. A son or grandson who has reached 14-15 years old, adult females begin to pursue. Gradually, all adult members of the herd take up arms against him, and the young elephant leaves the family. Sometimes he accompanies his mother's flock for several years, but keeps a respectful distance from him to avoid attack. Finally, having finally matured, he leaves his family. Now he wanders alone, joins the bachelor companies of other males, or stays briefly in family groups of females with elephants.
In mature years, the position of the male changes. Now he reaches such a size and strength that females do not dare to attack him. No one else can stop him from staying in family groups, and he often visits them for a long time. However, the male never becomes the leader of such a herd and does not have a noticeable weight in it. He does not take much part in the upbringing of his children and "grandchildren", but he bravely protects them and is always ready to help them.

But the greatest popularity of the National Park is brought by the gigantic baobabs, some of which are rumored to be more than a thousand years old.
The elephant and the baobab are the largest representatives of the terrestrial flora and fauna.

The elephant baobab is not only a cozy shade on a hot day and a good place to scratch your back, but also a kiosk for refreshments. In the hollow trunks of baobabs, water accumulates during the rains.

Tarangire Park is home to many other herbivores, among them zebras, buffaloes, impalas, gazelles. Cautious antelopes are always on the alert, they must have time to get drunk before the arrival of predators. Sometimes they have to walk considerable distances for this - practically the same great migration turns out, but on a smaller scale.

Herds of ungulates - zebras, antelopes, gazelles, reindeer and other animals - are followed by predators of lions, leopards and hyenas, jackals. Leos are well aware that they are at the top of the food chain, but others need to be reminded of this.

In addition, the Tarangire Valley is inhabited by ostriches, large African bustards, vultures, hornbills, parrots and banana-eaters, unique species of animals and birds that are found only here. In general, of the five most popular African exotic animals, only rhinos are not found here - but their shortage is more than compensated for by the rest of the local inhabitants. Beautiful giraffes, curious monkeys, always ready to rummage through your bags if you leave them unattended during lunch, mongooses and rare oryxes, huge pythons, buffaloes and many other animals live their normal lives and delight visitors to the park.

Tarangire National Park is known as a place where you can always find something interesting. In drought, these are congestions of animals at watering places, in the rainy season - families with babies of all kinds.

There are several comfortable lodges of various categories of accommodation in the park. If you are going to Tanzania on a safari, then be sure to come across such a concept as lodges (Lodge). This is an exclusively African invention for travelers. Lodges are usually located in the territories of national parks and reserves, where safaris are traditionally held.

Gorgeous interiors in African or colonial style are an indispensable attribute of the lodges. From an architectural point of view, this is a capital structure, where all services, bars, restaurants, a veranda for watching animals are concentrated. Guest rooms are usually located in separate bungalows or tents. Lodges have been created specifically so that travelers can enjoy the magnificent landscapes and wildlife. The lodges of Tanzania are rightfully recognized as one of the best in the east of the African continent.
