New eco-friendly trend at cruise ports?27.09.2023 21:13
It is no secret that the trend for environmentally friendly energy is growing rapidly throughout the world. In the cruise industry, this is most reflected in the construction of new cruise ships based on LNG engines.

But there are other ways to reduce carbohydrate emissions...

One of these new methods will be connecting to electricity in ports and, as a result, turning off (completely or partially) the engines of cruise ships.

An example of such a solution is the port of Kiel, Germany. Last weekend (23-24.09.2023) a port power plant was opened at the Ostuferhaven terminal to serve the new cruise ship MSC Euribia.

The ceremony was attended by Schleswig-Holstein Prime Minister Daniel Günther and Lord Mayor Ulf Kaempfer, as well as representatives from the port, technical partner Siemens, MSC Euribia captain Christopher Pugh and senior representatives from the cruise line.

According to previously signed agreements, the MSC Euribia, which cruises around Northern Europe, will be served by the port power system not only in the port of Kiel but also in the port of Hamburg.

From our experience, we can say with confidence that in the near future other cruise companies will adopt this new trend.
