MSC Cruises welcomes its first guests to Ocean Cay, a new private island in the Bahamas.

 

Ocean Cay is not just a holiday island, it is a unique marine reserve based on ecological principles. You can visit the island by taking a cruise around the Caribbean islands on the ships: MSC Seaside, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Armonia, MSC Divina.

 

MSC Cruises has transformed an industrial sand-mining site into a stunning tropical destination, working with environmental engineers and other experts to revitalize seabed, marine life and endangered corals.

 

The project took almost three years. During the cleanup process, a team of experienced divers and marine biologists meticulously removed individual hard coral colonies from the debris on the ocean floor and moved them to an approved location off-site. More than 75,000 plants and shrubs have been planted throughout the island to create a biologically diverse and sustainable environment.

 

MSC Cruises will also introduce a Conservation Center on the island in the coming months, serving as an active base for coral training and research.
