What do cruise lines do with empty ships?03.05.2020 10:35
Most cruise lines have voluntarily suspended their operations until June, some even longer. When the Asian crises were initially put on hold, Royal Caribbean sent its China-based ships to Australia, offering free cruises for those fighting wildfires in the country.
But now, what are cruise lines doing with their ships when all cruises have stopped and ships are either moored in ports around the world or idle at sea.
Here's a quick overview of what cruise lines do with their empty ships:
American Queen Steamboat Company & Victory Cruise Lines
AQSC and Victory Cruise Lines are in talks with the Federal Government to find out how their ships can accommodate military personnel during quarantine. American Queen Steamboat (AQSC) and Victory Cruise Lines (VCL) are currently exploring ways to partner with the US Federal Government to use their ships. These ships will house quarantined US military personnel as they either arrived from another country or will be flying to another country soon.
Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line
Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line offered their ships Grand Celebration and Grand Classica to the government for medical services and temporary housing.
Carnival Corporation
The world's largest cruise brand, which includes companies such as Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, P&O Cruises and others, has offered to turn its fleet into floating hospitals.
Princess Cruises: On Sky Princess, the crew left the message "#WeWillBeBack" using the cabin lighting on the ship.

Posted on our Instagram page: “Every night at 7:30 pm ET, all ships anchored around Grand Bahama Island, including the five HALs, are beeping at the same time, letting the world know we are strong , safe and healthy on board and we think of everyone. #HopeFloats "
Celebrity Cruises Captain Keith McCue, currently in command aboard Celebrity Edge, shared a video on her Instagram page for the nightly event: “We started something special on March 20th,” Captain Keith said in an Instagram post. “With ships from different companies gathered in the same 'area', this is a great opportunity to celebrate our solidarity. As a sign that we are all in this and we will get through this together, we invite all ships to join the honking fireworks at 19:30 every evening. "
The Carnival Cruise Line illuminates all of its ships with the message "We Will Be Back".
The crew are very proud of their work and this project, in particular, has special meaning to them. More than anything, team members want everyone to know that they are doing well and that they can't wait to get back to work on creating great memories.
