When we talk about renovating or building cruise ships, the German shipyard Meyer Werft and the Italian shipyard Fincantieri immediately appear in our thoughts. And this is logical, because they are leaders in their segment! But do not forget about other "factories" for the construction and renovation of cruise ships.

 

Harland & Wolff, after a long break, returns to cooperation with cruise companies. The main facilities of the Belfast shipyard are home to the two largest docks in Europe - 556 m and 335 m, respectively, as well as numerous fully serviced berths.

Once a leading UK shipyard, it has been in decline in recent years and could simply go bankrupt in the future. But, in 2019, as a result of the purchase by InfraStrata plc., The shipyard received a new life and many ambitious projects, the most interesting of which is the return to the construction and renovation of cruise ships!

 

Given the current global situation, the shipyard has put in place strict protocols to ensure that all public health guidelines are followed, some of which will be retained for the foreseeable future as a precautionary measure. Despite the pandemic and financial difficulties that the cruise industry is experiencing, the shipyard is undergoing restoration work, which secured loan agreements for cruise companies.

 

At the moment, the docks of Harland & Wolff are the liners of the premium cruise company Viking Cruises: Viking Sky, Sun and Sea.
