On February 1, the handover ceremony of the new MSC Virtuosa to MSC Cruises took place at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. The ship became 18th in the company's fleet.
The ceremony was attended by MSC Cruises Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago, his wife Alexa Aponte-Vago and their children, as well as representatives of the new MSC Cruises construction team, along with the shipyard's managers and workers.
Pierfrancesco Vago commented: “My family and I could not pass up the opportunity to personally welcome the new member of our fleet. The delivery of MSC Virtuosa at this challenging time in our industry symbolizes how we, as a family-owned company, continue to look ahead and build our future. ”
He continued, “That being said, we continue to strive to build some of the most innovative ships in the world every time when it comes to environmental performance, using only the most advanced technology available at sea. Equally important, with each new ship we continue to push the boundaries and innovate our products, offering our guests new and unique experiences. ”
MSC Cruises has received one of the most innovative ships in the world and continues to push the boundaries in the construction of new liners. MSC Virtuosa uses the most advanced technologies available today: hybrid exhaust gas treatment systems, waste water treatment system, underwater engine room noise management system that minimizes acoustic impact on marine life.
The new liner was rated 11 Gold Pearls by Bureau Veritas for a number of innovations implemented on the ship, including environmental protection, passenger health, crew health and safety.
MSC Virtuosa is the first cruise ship in the world to receive the BIORISK mark from Bureau Veritas in recognition of its ability to reduce the risk of infectious diseases for passengers.
MSC Virtuosa is expected to start operating its first cruises in the Mediterranean from April 16, and from May 8 to Northern Europe, where it will cruise the Norwegian fjords and the Baltic capitals.
