Mauritius opens new cruise terminal!06.09.2023 20:38
The cruise industry is developing not only thanks to the efforts of cruise companies. Most countries aim to attract many new tourists and cruise ship passengers is one of their goals. Thus, not only ports are developing, but also the infrastructure of the city to which the liner arrives.
The popular island in the Indian Ocean is no exception. Already in November 2023, the Port Authority of Mauritius plans to open a completely new cruise terminal in Port Louis.
But the country has been preparing for this step for more than one year. Mauritius Port Authority Director Shakeel Goburdhon says the country has been building its cruise industry for decades. In order to develop cruise tourism in 2009, the Mauritius Ports Authority built a special cruise pier to accommodate cruise liners.
In order to improve the level of service offered to cruise passengers and further promote Mauritius as a destination, the Mauritius Port Authority has begun construction of a cruise terminal building that will be ready to receive cruise ships as early as November 2023.
The new cruise terminal will be one of the largest facilities in the region and will be able to handle up to 4,000 passengers per day.

The Port Authority is also looking to increase the number of cruise ships that will call at Port Louis. Before the pandemic AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines ships were based in Port Louis harbor.
