New cruise terminal in Alaska!20.03.2024 19:31
Seward recently released plans to design and build a new cruise terminal and pier at the Port of Seward in Alaska.

Design and construction of the new facility is scheduled to begin immediately, with completion expected by spring 2026, according to the company's website.

Seward is working with Royal Caribbean Group and Turnagain Marine on a project to develop a new world-class cruise port in Seward.

Consultation on any questions

Designed to accommodate the largest ships currently operating in the region, the new facility will replace the Alaska Railroad's current cruise port, Seward said.

The pier, built in 1965, is now outdated and does not meet today's cruise industry operating and safety standards, according to an Alaska-based real estate development group.

A 2023 study found the port was in trouble, Seward added, with its support pilings deteriorating from unsafe to complete structural failure.

The centerpiece of the project is a 100-foot-wide, 748-foot-long, state-of-the-art floating double pier, the developer added, noting that a portable shore power system will be installed at the site.

The pier will be able to accommodate two ships moored at the same time and was designed to accommodate Royal Caribbean's Quantum class ships.

The pier will also be equipped with a 200-foot separated transfer bay to allow for safe and efficient boarding and disembarking of cruisers and food vehicles.

In addition, a 41,500-square-foot cruise terminal will be built, providing covered shelter for passengers and crew.

The cruise terminal, designed to operate year-round, will be converted into storage and public event space when cruise ships are not using it during the winter months.

The company says the new facility will provide future economic growth for the Seward region and the state of Alaska, as well as ensure the long-term sustainability of the Alaska Railroad.
