One of MSC Cruises' ships crossed the Amazon River for the first time earlier this month.
As part of the company's 2024 world cruise, MSC Poesia made its debut on Brazilian waterways, and the ship also made several first port visits in the region.
Entering the river on March 9, the ship took a scenic cruise through the Amazon forest before arriving in Manaus, the capital of the state of Amazonas, on March 13.
After an overnight call, MSC Poesia proceeded to the state of Pará, visiting Alter do Chao on 16 March and Belém on 18 March.
The vessel's route also included two technical stops in Fazendinha, Amapá state, on 11 and 17 March.
In an important milestone for the company, an MSC Cruises ship sailed to the northern region of Brazil for the first time.

Before reaching the Amazon River, MSC Poesia also visited the country's seaports, including Salvador and Rio de Janeiro.
The 2,550-guest ship offers a 120-night itinerary that began in Italy in early January. The world tour is scheduled to visit a total of 52 ports in 31 countries and territories before ending in Germany in May.
After visiting Brazil, the ship continued its route to the Caribbean via ports such as Barbados and the Bahamas, where MSC Poesia will visit MSC's private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve.
In addition to the MSC Poesia liner, in the winter season 2023–2024. A total of six MSC Cruises ships visited Brazil and South America.
MSC Seaview, MSC Preziosa, MSC Musica, MSC Lirica and MSC Armonia sailed in the region during the season, which began in October and ends in mid-April.
Debuting in the region in November, MSC Grandiosa joins the local fleet as the largest cruise ship in Brazil.
