Cruise trends 2025!03.01.2025 11:34
As we begin the New Year, we look at cruise industry trends in 2025 and beyond.
Focus on Results
Carnival Corporation has achieved record financial results in 2024 and has high hopes for 2025.
The same can be said for the other two major cruise companies that are publicly traded, Royal Caribbean Group and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
Full ships, a strong value proposition, and a focus on the North American consumer are said to be driving the financial results.
New Brands
New brands continue to join the growing industry. Aroya Cruises entered the Arabian market in late 2024, as did Eastern Cruise, which is targeting the South Korean market.
Expected startups in 2025 include Vidanta, the return of Victory Cruises with two ships, and Alma Cruceros.
Four Seasons is expected to receive its first ship later this year ahead of its operational debut in 2026, the same year Orient Express launches the first of two ultra-luxury sailing ships.
Luxury Market
The luxury market continues to grow faster than any other market segment in percentage terms. Although the ships are smaller, new ships from Viking, Explora, Windstar and others are driving growth.

Close to Home
Cruise lines are basing their ships closer to the industry’s number one market: the United States.
Home ports with modern infrastructure and capacity or air service support larger ships, and all the major brands have their own private islands in the Caribbean, supporting decisions to base more ships in the Caribbean.
Cruise lines continue to invest in their private islands, building piers or developing entirely new destinations.
The new Norwegian Aqua will launch this spring and will cruise the Caribbean for its inaugural season, rather than spending the summer in Europe.
Big New Ships
New cruise ships are getting bigger and bigger. Royal Caribbean International, MSC Cruises, TUI Cruises, Princess Cruises and Disney Cruise Line are set to take delivery of some of their largest ships in 2025.
Green
The new Celebrity Xcel will be the industry’s first tri-fuel ship when it debuts later this year, capable of running on both traditional fuel and methanol.
To give the ship fuel flexibility, Wartsila will supply two rebuilt Wartsila 46F 8-cylinder engines that will allow it to run on three fuel sources, including methanol.
Other examples include Royal Caribbean, which canceled its summer season in China in favor of a West Coast deployment, and Princess, which moved a ship from Australia to the Caribbean for the 2025-26 winter.
