To get a US visa, now you need to show social media!04.06.2019 10:33
The new visa application forms include a list of the main social networks where applicants must indicate their accounts. The new rules came into force on May 31, 2019. The innovation will affect most categories of visas - tourist, student and work.
Applicants will have to provide information about their social networks, email addresses, and phone numbers from the past five years. The new measures were explained by the need to "identify terrorists, threats to public safety and other dangerous persons" in order to prevent them from entering the country. Visa applicants may indicate on their application that they do not use social media, but if their profiles are found, this could lead to "severe immigration consequences."
The American Civil Liberties Union has already stated that "there is no evidence that such monitoring on social media is effective or fair," and noted that it would force people to self-censor themselves online.
