To La Spezia from the port.
The port is just 2 km from the city center. Walk to the public gardens (Giardini Pubblici) opposite the base of the pier and you will be in the city. Alternatively, you can take a bus or taxi for a short trip. The central train station La Spezia, located in Piazza Medaglie d'Oro, serves Pisa and the Cinque Terre, and trains run a couple of times per hour. Ferries also operate from La Spezia Ferry Terminal, about 20 minutes' walk from the cruise ship port, to Portovenere and the Cinque Terre.

From the port to the Cinque Terre and surroundings
The central train station with links to the Cinque Terre and other surroundings is 4 km away. There is a free port transfer to the downtown from Molo Garibaldi. It allows you to quickly reach the center of La Spezia, shopping area, restaurants, museums and the pedestrian area (Via del Prione, Corso Cavour and Piazza S. Agostino), located a short walk from the port bus stop.
Centro Storico. Much of La Spezia Centro Storico, or historic center, was destroyed during the war. But there are some good loopholes with surviving buildings, as well as interesting post-war architecture.

San Giorgio Castle is located on a hill overlooking La Spezia. It is a fortified castle dating from the 1200s, although most of the construction dates back to the 1600s. The castle houses an archaeological museum with a good collection of Roman artifacts.

Technical Naval Museum. Lovers of military and naval history, as well as children who like large guns and cannons, will enjoy this small museum. It also has a good collection of ship models.

Church of Santa Maria Assunta. This abbey church dates from at least the early 1400s, although it was almost completely destroyed during the bombing of World War II. It was restored and consecrated in 1954. Fortunately, many of her invaluable works of art were preserved during the war years, including the terracotta relief sculptures by Andrea Della Robbia.

Civico Amedeo Lia Museum. This art museum displays works from antiquity to the 20th century that were once part of the private collection of La Spezia resident Amedeo Lia. The collection includes ancient Roman sculptures, religious works and paintings by Titian, Tintoretto, and Italian futurists.

Bay of Poets. The bay is so named because it has been a place of inspiration for several English romantic poets. It is very beautiful and stunning in its views. Consider hiring a boat for a do-it-yourself or charter tour of the bay.
