The historic center of Savona is relatively small and easy to explore on foot. Buses can be helpful for travel to the beach.

Harbor and beach. Stroll the harbor and enjoy the sun, glittering sunshine and an enchanting variety of expensive yachts and old-fashioned fishing boats, where some sip champagne and others mend their nets. Here you will see most of the city's attractions in the distance, as well as a fish auction and some good street cafes.

Medieval fortress and prison of the 19th century. Between the beach and the harbor, you pass the Priamar fortress, built in 1542 and used as a prison for 500 prisoners for most of the 19th century.

Sistine Chapel of Savona. The word Sistine implies that the chapel was built by Pope Sixtus IV, who was born in Savona. It has been restored in the Rococo style with rich decorations, golden curls and a ceiling painted by Paolo Geralamo Brusco. Visitors also admire the carved wooden seats and the elegant garden of the monastery.

Ghibelline Towers. The Savona skyline is marked by several medieval towers. The most famous is the La Torretta clock tower at the end of Paleocapa street by the harbor. She was part of an old defensive structure. The Ghibelline Towers date back to the 16th century, when they were the most prominent of the approximately 50 towers built along the city walls.

Art Nouveau architecture. When you're done exploring the main attractions, you'll have plenty of time to wander around the city with shops, cafes, waterfront promenades and old people having fun in outdoor areas. However, another detail that is especially interesting is the richness of Art Nouveau or Ottocento architecture, which gives even ordinary houses a little history and mystery.
